StudioHum Hardware Unit

StudioHum

Analog warmth. Controlled noise.
Transformer saturation.

VST3 CLAP | Windows Linux | OFFLINE-FIRST

Silence is overrated.

StudioHum adds the subtle, musical imperfections real hardware gives you for free: mains hum character, transformer attitude, and that “alive” movement you miss when everything is perfectly clean. Dial it in. Keep it under control. Move on with your life.

The Sound of Real Hardware

StudioHum doesn't generate generic noise. It models the electromagnetic behavior of studio transformers — the subtle hum that's been part of every classic recording since the 1950s.

Different hardware hums differently. A Neve console doesn't sound like a Fender amp doesn't sound like a vintage tape machine. We modeled that.

Not Samples. Physics.

We didn't record hum and loop it. We modeled the behavior — magnetic flux, rectifier characteristics, harmonic interaction. Every parameter changes the underlying model in real time. That's why it sits in a mix instead of fighting it.

StudioHum Advanced Controls

Synthesis Calibration (advanced controls)

The main controls get you 90% there. These three sliders get you the rest.

Hash
The grit. Mains-synchronous noise from diode switching and electromagnetic interference — the "buzz" that sits on top of the hum. Low values add subtle texture. High values add that lo-fi transistor radio crackle.
Ripple
The pump. Full-wave rectifier artifacts at 100 Hz (EU/UK) or 120 Hz (US). This is the "throb" underneath cheap power supplies. Subtle ripple adds movement. Cranked ripple adds that vintage amp sag.
Mismatch
The imperfection. Real hardware doesn't have matched channels. Left and right transform slightly differently. Mismatch adds subtle gain differences between L/R — the kind of thing that makes mono sources feel wider without obvious stereo tricks.

Why Percentages?

No dB. No coefficients. Just 0–100%.

These aren't mix parameters. They're blend controls for components inside the hum model. You're not setting levels — you're dialing in how much of each behavior contributes to the final character. Percentages make that intuitive.

FAQ

Is StudioHum a subscription?

No. No renewals, no recurring charges, no “rent your plugin” nonsense.

Do I need an account?

No. You can download StudioHum and use it without creating an account. If you buy a license, we'll email you a license key. You can optionally use a magic link to view your purchases and downloads, but it's not required.

Why don’t you support macOS?

Supporting macOS requires compliance with Apple’s mandatory gatekeeping systems (notarization, runtime approval) that can disable software remotely. We do not agree with this model.

Our plugins are designed to be:

  • Offline-first
  • Privacy-respecting
  • Free from vendor runtime approval

This is a deliberate decision, not a technical limitation.

Do you collect telemetry or analytics?

No telemetry. No tracking. No usage reporting. We don’t spy on your sessions.

What data do you collect at all?

We only handle what’s necessary for licensing (license keys) and optional purchases/support. Newsletter signup is optional and uses separate opt-ins coverage. Nothing else.

Does it work offline?

Yes. StudioHum is designed to work without an internet connection.

Can I use it commercially?

Yes. If you bought it, you can use it in commercial work.

How many machines can I install it on?

Reasonable personal use: your main machine plus your laptop/studio rig.

Will updates cost extra?

Updates within the same major version are included. Major upgrades will be clearly labeled, not quietly forced.
